All Aboard The Jackson Express!

Calder High physics teacher Mrs Jackson has officially made a terrific U-turn just for the Pace Eggers. Mrs Jackson has turned her back on an Easter holiday away with the family in order to stay in the Calder Valley and transport the Pace Eggers all over their many performance locations. This is absolutely fantastic news for the team as they were on the verge of running around the entire circuit! Billy Painter, Fool, classed Jackson's decision as, "A true miracle and great surprise" feeling that she is the final element of this years group. The Pace Eggers would like to thank Mrs Jackson for her heart and generosity in offering her services to this great cause and welcome her aboard the journey!

Happy Birthday Frank

Painter's Chronicle subscripient Frank Watene celebrates his 32nd birthday today. Frank is a professional rugby league player who plays for Halifax RLFC as a prop forward. Frank has also played for many other rugby league clubs during his long and illustrious career, even including a few international caps along the way! Frank celebrated his special day in style putting in a man of the match performance in Halifax's 38-10 win against Hunslet Hawks. Happy Birthday from everyone at The Painter's Chronicle!

Sunday's Kitchen - Raspberry Marshmallows

Ingredients
455g Granulated Sugar
200ml Water
1 Tbsp Liquid Glucose
9 Sheets of Gelatine
2 Large Egg Whites
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Oil (For Greasing)
125g Fresh Raspberries, Coated in Icing Sugar
Icing Sugar for Dusting
Cornflour for Dusting

Method
1. Put the granulated sugar, glucose and water in a heavy-based saucepan. Bring to the boil and continue cooking until it reaches 127°C/260°F on the sugar thermometer.
2. Meanwhile, soak the gelatine in 140ml of cold water. Beat the egg whites until stiff. When the syrup is up to temperature, carefully slide in the softened gelatine sheets and their soaking water. The syrup will bubble up so be careful. Pour the syrup into a metal jug.
3. Continue to beat the egg whites while pouring in the hot syrup. The mixture will become shiny and start to thicken. Add the vanilla extract and continue whisking for 5-10 minutes, until the mixture is stiff and thick enough to hold its shape on the whisk.
4. Lightly oil a shallow 30 x 20 cm baking tray. Dust it with sieved icing sugar and cornflour, then spoon half the mixture over and smooth it with a wet pallet knife if needed.
5. Roughly break the raspberries in half and spread over the mixture then cover with the rest of the marshmallow mixture. Leave in the fridge to set for 1 hour.
6. Dust the work surface with icing sugar and cornflour. Loosen the marshmallow round the edges of the tray and turn out onto the dusted surface. Cut into squares and roll in the icing sugar and cornflour. Then leave to dry a little on a wire rack, and then pack into an airtight box.
7. These are really nice dipped in white chocolate fondue!

The "Youth of Today" in the Calder Valley

As you may know, The PC Board were recently photographed for the marvelous "500 Faces", a project by local photographer Jason Elliott to coincide with the forthcoming 500th anniversary of the Packhorse Bridge, the titular bridge of Hebden.
If you haven't already, then please check out the two sites:

The headquarters of the 2010 celebrations
The homepage of Jason Elliott's project

Of course we wasted no time in signing up Mr Elliott, a fine specimen of community Hebden Bridge-ness, as a subscripient to our newsletter, and he was delighted with the edition, describing it on his blog as "erudite, topical, witty and wise".
What is even more flattering though is that he used us (by which I don't just mean the board, but the whole PC team) as an example of why young people are still achieving great things, despite the bad press we seem to receive.

T-Shirt Update

Just to tell you all that the deadline for T Shirts is this Friday at exactly 6pm. Do not overdraft this or the Editor will smite you. Also T Shirts are available in black.

Also, is T Shirt spelt T Shirt or Tee Shirt? Or Tea Shirt?

I Met the Walrus

For those of you who haven't seen this (I believe it was a PC YouTube Video of the Month way back) I suggest you do. It's a delightful animation set to a recording of an interview of John Lennon in 1969 where a young Toronto student sneaked into the hotel where John was staying.
It raises some interesting ideas, many of which still stand today. Also look out for some of the subliminal messages. Enjoy!

Due to popular demand from a number of subscripients, The PC have decided to release another T-Shirt design. This T-Shirt will have the "Impress Girls, Sign Up to the Painter's Chronicle" logo on the front, rather than the PC logo itself. Painter's Chronicle T-Shirt!

The Painter's Chronicle are proud to release the design of the official "Painter's Chronicle T-Shirt" We decided to design and produce a PC T-shirt after you, the subscripients made your voice heard. This project has been made possible thanks to Judah Smith, who has kindly offered to help us design and produce the T-shirts.

We have taken all printing and material costs into consideration and calculated the best price possible to purchase one of these fine pieces of apparel. The price in which The Board has agreed on is £5.99, which is an absolute bargain if we may say so ourselves!

We plan to order the first batch of T-shirts for printing next Monday evening, so we would like all orders by Sunday 8th February, 8pm. We need to know the size you require, quantity and how you will pay. If you live outside the Calder Valley we will need to know your address too, so that we can send you the complete article. Please contact info@painterschronicle.co.uk to place your order now!
